THE Perkins Brailler training programme, which is the first of its kind in the
GCC states, was concluded yesterday at the Saudi- Bahraini Institute for the Blind
in Isa Town.
The Batelco-sponsored programme was designed to help the blind repair the Perkins
Brailler. The program mi; was run by engineer Rudolph Gideon from the South African
Braille Services Trust Co in conjunction with Braille House Co in the UAE.
Representatives of GCC institutes for the blind took part.
''Holding such training programmes is part of the institute's efforts to equip
Bahrain workers with necessary skills to maintain
these equipment," said Saudi- Bahraini institute for the Blind director Abdulwahid
Mohammed Al Khayat.
"There are very few qualified technicians in the GCC and instead of sending
the equipment abroad; it is more convenient if we can train someone locally to
repair such equipment." |
